A Trip to Atlantic Station

It's the commercial, consumer's utopia. Atlantic Station is a haven for all things familiar and modern. Every pop culture staple you can imagine is housed within these few city blocks. Well-known retailers Target, Old Navy, The Gap, DSW and Ikea can usurp hours on end without any effort.

Atlantic Station encompasses every basic need, including groceries. You could live there - literally. But for now let's just talk about how to spend one day.

Most of the restaurants and stores open at 10 a.m. so start the day with a cup of coffee and pastries at PJ Coffee. Follow up with a stroll around Central Park and the surrounding shops. If you're in the mood for home improvement stop into Pier 1, Welt Elm or Z. Gallerie to name a few. Shopping for apparel?

If so, there is an Ann Taylor Loft, Guess, American Eagle, Banana Republic and Express.

After browsing works up your appetite, there are countless lunch time options. Au Bon Pain, serves a variety of cuisine at reasonable prices. Soups, salads, rice bowls and sandwiches fill the menu. Try a soup and sandwich combo to get the most variety for your dollar. But there is something for every craving. Want pizza? Go to California Pizza Kitchen. For a southwest flavor, try Moe's. If you're in the mood for something lighter, DocGreen's specializes in salads and Boneheads serves seafood.

Later you could catch a movie at Regal Cinemas and then have dinner at one of the many restaurants.

The Grape is an experience in wine tasting with light cuisine, Rosa Mexicana serves up gourmet Mexican dishes and Strip specializes in steak, sushi and socializing with space to eat and a deejay for entertainment and dancing after.

But there is more to this mainstream madhouse. If you want to do something off the beaten path visit Atlantic Station's online calendar, which keeps visitors abreast of recurring and special events. For example, on Wednesdays "Mommy and Me Push" takes place. Parents are encouraged to come out with their children in strollers for a 1-mile walk and socializing. There are often open markets where local vendors sell custom-made goods varying from jewelry to scented candles. At the right time of the year you might catch a sporting tournament or the Taste of Atlanta. So as the slogan says "life happens here," and it can be whatever you make it.
