Kite Runner

By: Khaled Hosseini

Best-selling author, Khaled Hosseini, startles readers with an astounding awareness of his homeland being inhabited by more than Taliban and Terrorists. Set in Afghanistan, amid the chaos and confusion of war, real lives are playing out. Interrupted, thrown off track and shattered, Afghanis struggle to maintain some sense of normalcy.

In Kite Runner, which has been adapted to film, Hosseini introduces us to best friends Amir and Hassan. Their picturesque childhood replete with foot races, story telling and kite flying is disturbed by a devastating event and further upturned when the country is overtaken by Taliban. The boys are pulled continents apart until another tragedy leads Amir back to Afghanistan to rectify the grievances of their adolescence. Heart wrenching scenes juxtapose heartwarming characters. It's a haunting tale so well written that although tragic it is also touching.
