Cabbagetown is a local Atlanta neighborhood, located southeast of Downtown Atlanta. Cabbagetown was built as a surrounding mill town for the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill which began operations in 1881. Jacob Elsas, a German immigrant, owner of the mill, also designed the one-story homes that define Cabbagetown. Mr. Elsas built the surrounding homes as an incentive for individuals to seek employment with the cotton mill.
Cabbagetown has become an area of tremendous growth since its rebirth, boasting homes that start in the $200,000 range, as well as, great restaurants. It has been voted one of Atlanta's ten best neighborhoods, with the general consensus being that it is one of the few remaining areas that still offers moderately priced homes.
