Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, LES MISÉRABLES is an epic saga that sweeps through three turbulent decades of 19th century France. It is the story of one man, the fugitive Jean Valjean, who is pitted against the cruel and self-righteous Inspector Javert. The story begins in France in 1815 when Valjean is released from prison for the crime of stealing a loaf of bread. He's spent nineteen years on a chain gang and now by law he must display a yellow card at all times and so is condemned to be an outcast. Only the saintly Bishop Digne treats him kindly and the parolee repays him by stealing his silver. Valjean is caught by police and is astonished when the Bishop lies to save him. Valjean vows to start his life anew. This powerful tale of love, loss, triumph and redemption includes memorable songs such as "One Day More" and "Do You Hear The People Sing?"
